INCIDENT INFORMATION
Harassment/Possible Stalking – Arnold Campus
The college’s Department of Public Safety and Police (DPSP) was recently made aware of incidents of harassment and possible stalking by a known male AACC student involving several female students over the past several weeks. The male student in question had been barred from all college property by DPSP while the investigation continues and is reviewed by the Office of Community Standards and the Title IX coordinator.
Some information regarding stalking
What is Stalking? (As summarized from the Maryland Code by the Maryland Network Against Domestic violence and the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault)
In Maryland, stalking is a crime and is legally defined as a persistent pattern of approaching or pursuing someone in order to make them feel afraid that they or someone else will suffer serious injury, assault, rape, or sexual offenses, false imprisonment or death.
What can you do about a stalker?
• Document all communication with and from a stalker.
• Keep an incident log containing all harassing text messages, voicemails, emails and posts to social media. By using the print screen button on your computer, you can save emails and social media post by pasting them into a word document.
• Stop by DPSP for a printed incident log or create your own.
• Take photos of any property that may be damaged or any injuries sustained and save copies to add to police reports or legal documents.
• File a report with the police and give them a copy of your incident log and photos. Keep originals for yourself. Use a P.O Box address to maintain privacy. Your report may become public record.
• Obtain a peace or protective order. Give a copy to the DPSP.
• Do not talk to a stalker. Tell them only one time that you do not want any further contact from them. If they contact you after that, record it on an incident log.
• ALSO, have your cell phone with you at all times. If you feel like you are being followed, do not go home. Go to a busy place.
• Park in well-lit areas and be aware of your surroundings. Walk with someone or call campus police for an escort while on campus. (410-777-1818)

It was determined that the subject was attempting to engage the student in conversation and pursue a social relationship, but there was no intent to criminally stalk the student. The subject has been counselled on this matter and DPSP does not believe the subject presents a threat to the college community. DPSP greatly appreciates the response they received from the campus community on this matter.

We have archived crime logs online for the following years:
As previously reported, several vehicles had property stolen from them last Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, from Lot D, with attempts to enter other vehicles on Lot C and G. Through investigation, and with the assistance of the Anne Arundel County Police and law enforcement in Delaware, the college’s Department of Public Safety and Police was able to develop a suspect. That suspect has since been interviewed and criminal charges are being sought.
As with most theft from vehicles, this was a crime of opportunity where the criminal did not use force to enter vehicles but simply checked random vehicles until he found ones that were unlocked. Please remember to always lock your vehicle and secure any valuables in your trunk or glove compartment.
